Facilities

The Floor has extensive facilities including OGTR PC2 certification of most lab areas and will soon have laboratories with Quarantine Approved Premise status QAP5.2.

The major facilities and equipment groupings on the floor include:

  • Extensive Proteomics Facility
  • Extensive Tissue Culture Facilities
  • Flow Cytometry
  • Chromatography
  • Ultra and Super-speed Centrifugation
  • Freeze-drying
  • Molecular: PCR and Electrophoresis
  • Microscopy; Fluorescence and Confocal
  • Electrophysiology
  • Toxinology (organ baths)
  • RF exposure
  • Preparation Facilities
  • Autoclaves
  • Liquid N2 and -80 storage

The Facility Management Role

Biosciences and Proteomics Technologies provides management and support for the Level 6 Biomedical Research laboratories and facilities of the Faculty of Science. The research facility manages the infrastructure and general operations of the research floor and provides and maintains core shared equipment and services. This includes the provision of:

  • Policies and systems
    • Induction/training
    • Space allocation and planning
    • Environment Health and Safety procedures
    • Standard operation procedures
  • Rooms and Facilities:
    • Proteomics
    • Instrumentation (Core Technologies)
    • Tissue Culture
    • Ultra/Super Centrifugation + Freeze-driers
    • Autoclaves
  • Major commonly used equipment
    • Bench centrifuges(high capacity)
  • Cold storage
    • Freezers, Friges
    • -80 ultra Freezers
    • Liquid N2
  • Ordering services
    • i-Procurement processing support
  • Basic floor services
    • Wash up room
    • Waste streams
    • Polished water
  • Advice and Expertise

Aside from providing the core shared equipment, we offer advice and help in maintenance of group specific equipment that contribute to the floor’s group specific facilities. However, it is expected that the actual repairs and maintenance cost for researchers cover group specific equipment.

Booking equipment and facilities

Many of the facilities and equipment in the level 6 laboratories need to be booked and or logged for use.
Booking for many of our facilities is done through our online booking system, please check local signage.

The online booking system allows users to log in remotely and check for availability. It also allows us to monitor usage and predict future demand.
Use of the online booking system is compulsory for items labelled as such.
