How do I apply for a Research Degree (PhD) in TCM?

Information about applying for postgraduate studies can be found at www.science.uts.edu.au/courses/admission.html. If you are applying as an international student you can refer to www.uts.edu.au/international/index.html.

The usual protocol for applications is to develop a brief research proposal and then contact the College to determine if a suitable supervisor can be appointed. Research proposals can be sent to Peter.Meier@uts.edu.au. Before sending your research proposal you should check out the websites above and the UTS Graduate school www.gradschool.uts.edu.au. Your proposals will be circulated among staff and you will be contacted if a suitable supervisor can be appointed.

The UTS Graduate School website provides a valuable source of information regarding the preparation and processing procedures of your application. You are strongly advised to visit this site prior to initiating contact with the UTS College of TCM.

When do applications for post graduate research study close?

Applications will be accepted at any time. As there is a considerable lead time to having your proposal assessed for suitability within the College and the allocation of a supervisor, in addition to any changes to your proposal that may be required, you are advised to start the application process as early as possible and certainly no later than August if you wish to commence at the beginning of the following year (February for a mid-year start).

Can I apply for research funding or are research grants available?

The UTS College of TCM does not provide funding or scholarships to students. There are some scholarship programs available via UTS and other organisations. Further information is available at www.gradschool.uts.edu.au/current/support.html. Occasionally, staff may have positions available as part of a research grant. In such cases, these funding opportunities are advertised through the TCM Research page

.

What is the likelihood of a successful application for postgraduate research studies?

Every effort is made to find appropriate supervisors for proposed projects. Not all applications are successful due to the limited resources available in terms of both staff and funding of proposed projects. Projects that are attached to research grants stand a good chance of success, but funding does not itself guarantee success, as research opportunities are highly competitive.

I still have unanswered questions.

If you have question that has not been answered above, you should contact the Ms Rochelle Seneviratne, Research & Development Coordinator at phone +61 2 9514 2490.
