Background / Research Interests

Philip obtained a B. App. Sci (Honours) from the University of Technology, Sydney. He then gained experience within industry as an application chemist (Waters Chromatography, NSW) and an HPLC method development chemist (Cenovis), as well as numerous positions in scientific sales. Philip completed his PhD at the University of Tasmania in 1998, and then worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania.

His research interests are in the general area of analytical chemistry, including fundamental and applied aspects of capillary electrophoresis, high performance liquid chromatography and ion chromatography. Philip is particularly interested in the use of artificial neural networks as an aid for the development of chromatographic procedures. His current research includes the analysis of samples of forensic interest such as drugs, dyes and accelerants, as well as developing artificial neural networks for sample identification.

Other interests include the use of on-line technologies as tools for the development of analytical procedures. An example can be viewed at http://www.mobilise.com. This website contains a searchable database of information pertinent to the development of capillary electrophoretic methods.
