Profile
Rod Buckney is a plant ecologist whose background includes a strong competence in environmental chemistry and aquatic ecology. He has worked in government and non-government situations in Tasmania and New South Wales. Since completing his PhD in 1975, most of his employment has been at UTS, where he has worked for 21 years.
His research activities have spanned terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (both freshwater and marine) and ecotoxicology. He was recently involved in studies on sediment-water-plant interactions in the Fly River floodplain (Papua New Guinea) and is currently engaged in an evaluation of ecological risks affecting Nong Han, a large freshwater lake in north-east Thailand. He has published more than thirty refereed research papers.
He is a former Head of the Department of Environmental Biology and Horticulture now substantially the Department of Environmental Sciences) and former Alternate Head of the School of Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
He is an Associate Professor and as Associate Dean (Coursework Programs) in the Faculty of Science currently has responsibility for development, quality assurance and review of all matters to do with undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs in the Faculty
Research Interests
