Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Environmental Sciences is responsible for the teaching of the following Bachelor of Science degrees:

The award of a bachelor’s degree requires successful completion of three years of full-time study. The structure of each of the above degrees follows a set pattern. There is a foundation 1st year that includes chemistry, mathematics and statistics and biological / environmental studies with most subjects being compulsory. (In 2008 this foundation program will be taken by all students undertaking biological science degrees in the Faculty.) The normal full-time pattern of study is four subjects per semester for three years, with half the load for part-time study. In senior years, opportunities for selecting elective subjects are provided in order to allow the students to develop a deeper understanding and specialisation of their areas of study.

Honours Degrees:

The Department of Environmental Sciences offers the following Honours Degree Programs to students who perform well enough to be accepted into the course:

Postgraduate Programs

A variety of research areas are offered in environmental sciences via the postgraduate research degrees.
Research degrees are where students undertake a supervised research project over either a two year (result will be a Masters of Science) or three year (result will be a PhD) period.

Assessment is via a thesis in which the results and conclusions of the study are presented. In order to undertake a research degree in the Faculty of Science at UTS, you must first determine the project of your research and secondly find the appropriate supervisor.
