Managing your candidature

Conflict Resolution

Students can and do face a variety of problems during their research degree candidature – these could be a lack of resources or infrastructure support; disagreements with their supervisor; problems with other students; personal problems. However, there are many sources of assistance and students should avail themselves of these.

In the first instance, students should speak to their supervisors about problems which may affect their candidature. If a discussion with your supervisor is not possible or inappropriate, there are other resources available. The following is the appropriate channel to follow if you have problems to resolve or discuss.

  1. Your Supervisor
  2. Faculty Research & Development Office
  3. Associate Dean, Research & Development
  4. Dean of Science
  5. University Graduate School
