About mathematical sciences

The School of Mathematical Sciences (MS) is one of five schools within UTS: Science.

The School of Mathematical Sciences offers a range of undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs that combine the development of knowledge with the practical skills needed for careers in areas as diverse as determining the effectiveness of new drugs, analysing consumer demand for products, evaluating the environmental impact of pollution, strategic planning to determine the optimal allocation of resources and risk management.

These degree programs foster skills that enable graduates to adapt and take advantage of new opportunities that may occur throughout life as their career develops:  problem-solving skills to be able to identify the essential components of a problem and appropriate methods to solve them;  modelling skills to analyse complex situations and make predictions;  creativity to view problems in imaginative and innovative ways;  and the skills of a self-motivated learner who can deal with challenging new concepts and information.

Researchers in the School of Mathematical Sciences develop original mathematical and computational methods that can be used to find real-life solutions to real-life problems.
