Research Areas of the Department

The Department has active research programs in a number of areas, and many staff are members of research groups that go beyond the Department, particularly:

The Institute for Nanoscale Technology and the Centre for Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS), an ARC Centre of Excellence involving five national universities. Contact: Professor Lindsay Botten

The Centre for the Study of Choice (CenSoc).  Contact: Professor Deborah Street

A number of staff are also involved in collaborative research with the University's Centre for Health Technologies within the Faculty of Engineering, focussing on medical image technology with the objective of improving the detection and anaylsis of detail in medical images, especially breast mammograms.
