Industry interactions and services
MAU provides researchers and students in the physical and biological sciences with access to a comprehensive array of state-of-the-art analytical microscopy tools as well as materials characterisation and fabrication equipment. The Centre is supported by an experienced team of six resident professional staff who are highly skilled in an extensive range of advanced techniques and specialised applications.
The Centre caters for a large clientele of researchers from industry, government and tertiary laboratories both locally and internationally. These services include:
- Materials microcharacterisation
- Measurement and testing
- Materials evaluation
- Chemical analysis
- Industrial contract research
- Quality Assurance and routine testing
- Failure analysis
- Forensic analysis
- Corrosion analysis
- Biomaterials analysis
- Metallurgical analysis
- X-ray, SEM and SPM operator training
- Production-line "trouble-shooting" analysis
- Equipment rental with or without a UTS operator.
In addition to providing expert routine materials analysis and microscopy, the MAU also develops and maintains a number of exclusive characterisation capabilities, such as:
- Advanced scanning cathodoluminescence microscopy and spectroscopy facilities, equipped with liquid nitrogen and helium cold stages and UV-VIS and IR PMT detectors
- Environmental scanning electron microscopes for imaging of wet specimens
- A wide range of EDS spectral x-ray mapping and microanalysis systems
- High spatial resolution electron back-scatter diffraction facility
- Ultra high resolution scanning electron microscopes
- Bio-scanning probe microscopes
- A comprehensive array of scanning probe microscopes with a large variety of imaging modes, including conductive mode AFM
- Environmental scanning electron microscopes for imaging of wet specimens.
