Research

The School of Medical and Molecular Biosciences (MMB) has a long history of active research that has resulted in the formation of the Institute for the Biotechnology of Infectious Disease in 2002 [now ithree institute] and the Centre for Health Technologies in 1999. Several MMB staff, specialising in Forensic Biology are also members of the Centre for Forensic Science. The Proteomics Technology Centre of Expertise was established in 2006.

In 2001, a spin-off company, PacMab [now Immune Systems Therapeutics P/L] was developed from the research within MMB with a mission is to develop and commercialise monoclonal antibodies technology for the treatment of blood cancers and other blood disorders. The School of Medical and Molecular Biosciences has a strong record of research and development; essential to facilitating quality postgraduate research programs and encourages research that engages the interest of industry and community partners.

MMB has teaching and research affiliations with medical, biotechnology and forensic organisations such as the Heart Research Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital, Westmead Hospital, Novartis, ABIC, Aquafin CRC, the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, the Australian Federal Police, NSW Police and the Division of Analytical Laboratories.
