Degree: Bachelor of Science majoring in Environmental Science.

Why did you choose this degree?

For me, science is all about trying to understand how things work. Once you understand something you can then use that knowledge to find other uses for it, or in some cases even manipulate it to perform other functions it was not originally intended for. This is how we have found cures for many diseases, solved crimes with forensics, made technological breakthroughs (though admittedly not all are good), and are understanding the functions of Earth and the universe in general. I guess in a nut shell I see science as the driving force behind humanities advancement. Where would we be without science?

Why did you choose the subject Comparative Planetology?

I have been interested in space for almost as long as I can remember, ever since the first time I saw Luke Skywalker fire up his lightsabre when I was a little kid. When I think about the infinite size of the universe, the galaxies within them, and the stars, planets, etc that make up the galaxies it makes me feel really small and insignificant. Who knows what or even who else is up there, humans have barely even left Earth. I’m just fascinated to know, that’s why I chose to do the subject Comparative Planetology.

I like to think that the answers to how everything came into being, where its all going and perhaps even the meaning of it all are up there somewhere. When I heard about the X2 expedition and its work developing some of the technolology to help humans get to Mars through simulating martain conditions on Earth in Arkaroola, I was both intrigued and keen to be involved. I don’t expect to find many answers at this stage, but organizations such as X2 are taking the first step to hopefully finding some.
