ANGUS GENTLE
My Honours project aimed to investigate new types of thermally efficient black and coloured paints, which have a high near-infrared reflectance, along with a high thermal emittance. This project built upon my familiarity with a variety of optical and thermal measurement and modelling techniques. It involved characterising thermally and optically, black samples supplied by BASF. As well as modelling and deposition of coloured flaky thin films and coating nanoparticles, I also developed an optical/thermal model of the paints, which enabled performance evaluation of paint. I was also involved in the development of a new total hemispherical spectrophotometer.
As well as the academic side of Honours, there is also the social side in which I spent many good times with people from within the faculty.
