TIM ADAMS
My Honours project was undertaken at the CSIRO Australian Telescope National Facility at Marsfield, NSW. The aim of the project was to design a device for determining the system temperature (which is the equivalent noise) contained in the signal of a radio telescope. The system temperature is then used in the calibration of the telescope, and analysis of results. The finished product was destined for use at the Parkes Radio Telescope (aka "The Dish"), The Narrabri Compact Array, and many other CSIRO and non-CSIRO dishes around the world.
I became familar with the function of a radio telescope. Using signal processing techniques, I designed the device and then constructed and tested it.
