While all UTS researchers are supported, regardless of their area of research, a number of research areas have been designated as special research strengths in the University or in the Faculty. These research areas receive special support.

University Research Groups (URGs)

The strategic approach taken by the University Research Management Committee in the new policy to strengthen and refocus research strength at UTS saw the designation of new University Research Groups which will also receive central funding in support of their research ventures. Two of the six groups newly designated are within the Faculty of Science. They are:

Forensic Science
Photonic Crystal Technology
